When considering home improvements for your property, it is vital that you don't neglect the outside of the house. A garden improvement project could add value to your home so that when you come to sell, it is worth more money as it will be more appealing.

Before you do anything, ensure that it is neat and tidy. Cut the grass and cut back any overgrown shrubbery and don't forget to de-weed! Anything that is worn or broken should be thrown out as it will just make the whole garden look really untidy and unpleasant, which you don't want.

Plants can be expensive but they are often cheaper in larger DIY stores than in garden centres so shop around and don't pay top prices. A few new plants and flowers in the garden can make a big difference and you can even add in something exotic like a fruit tree!

Fountains and ponds are a great idea to make the garden look better too but make sure you opt for something that doesn't require too much care or it will become a pain. If you can, you should also try to select natural looking features so that it doesn't look out of place or make the garden look tacky.

You could think about adding in green features such as a gazebo with solar power for the lighting and perhaps even a sound system. It adds more living space to your home and so it will instantly attract buyers, adding plenty of value to your property price.

So that potential buyers can see themselves in your garden, you should ensure that there is garden furniture - maybe a garden swing chair would be a nice addition.

If you've got a garage you should at the very least tidy it so that buyers can see how much space there is. If you have the funds available or can get a remortgage you could convert it into additional living space to make the most of all of the space that you have.

If you have a small garden at the front of your home but nowhere to park the car, you could transform your front garden into a drive to make the property more appealing. Only consider this if you have a rear garden however as removing all garden space can devalue your home.

One of the most important things to remember is that whatever improvements you decide to do, ensure that the garden is easy to look after as high maintenance gardens are off-putting to buyers.

Getting a remortgage to fund a garden project is a really clever idea and while you're waiting to sell, you can sit back, relax and enjoy your new garden!
