When you are choosing a bar stool it has been said that the most important factor to take into consideration is height.

You will have people who might say that other factors are more important items to consider such as the material it's made from or its level of comfort. If you think about it, height is definitely the most important consideration because without the right height no one will be able to get comfortable on your bar stool.

Recently there has been a growing trend to place higher counter tops in eating establishments and even in many new homes. With these counter tops becoming more popular we see an increasing need for extra tall bar stools.

Choosing an extra tall bar stool requires a bit more thought as you will need to give careful consideration to its center of gravity. Tall bar stools have a bad habit of toppling over, especially when young children decide to climb on them. Make sure your young ones aren't able to get themselves in this predicament if you do require bar stools of the taller variety.

The distance from the seat to the ground is the universal form of measurement for bar stool height. The distance from the ground to the top of the seats back is not a factor. There is a very good reason for this. The human population is made up many body types. A bar stool is designed to leave between 8 to 12 inches from the seat to the underside of the counter. This is the height that has been agreed allows for as many body types as possible to sit comfortably. By now you should be realising just how important the height of the bar stools is for the comfort of your guests or customers.

So now that we have established that you do indeed need either extra tall bar stools or standard height, which is universally agreed to be 30 inches, we now need to decide on style and material. A good place to start shopping is in your home. There are more variety and styles online than will find in the brick and mortar shops.

What is your bar stool going to be used for? Indoors or out, heavy or light traffic are things you should be thinking about. Pay careful attention to the material if your bar stools are going to be outdoors.

For everyday use you would be more inclined to go for a wooden seat or if you like fabric make sure it is heavily scotch guarded to reduce wear and tear. For durability you can't go past metal bar stools. Popular styles make use of wood for the seat for extra comfort. Excellent for indoors and out they can be moved according to your needs. They can be heavy though.

There are quite a few things to take into consideration when choosing and purchasing bar stools. Take your time; work out what height you need first, then choose the style and you'll be sure to get something just right.
